Vice President Traffic Development – Avinor AS – Oslo Gardermoen

Publicerad den 25 februari 2026

Are you the leader who will further develop Avinor’s traffic strategy in an environment of increasing international competition?

Avinor manages and develops one of Norway’s most important societal systems: the infrastructure that connects the country – and Norway to the world. With responsibility for 43 airports and air navigation services for civil and military aviation, Avinor plays a central role in value creation, national preparedness, and sustainable mobility.

The current Vice President Traffic Development is transitioning to a new executive role within the Group, and we are therefore seeking his successor. In this role, you will lead and further develop the Group’s overall traffic development efforts, at the intersection of commercial ambitions, societal responsibility, and long-term capacity development.

This is a key role with significant influence on how Norwegian aviation develops in the years to come.

About the role
As Vice President Traffic Development, you hold overall responsibility for Avinor’s traffic strategy – covering passenger traffic, cargo, and airline services – across the entire airport network. The role reports to the Executive Vice President Commercial Management and Development and works in close collaboration with the Group Executive Management, other business areas, airports, external stakeholders, and public authorities.

You will lead a strong professional environment within traffic forecasting, analytics, and commercial traffic development, and play a central role in dialogue with airlines nationally and internationally. Forecasting forms the foundation for Avinor’s investment, capacity, and financial planning, with time horizons ranging from 12–18 months to 20–30 years ahead. This places high demands on quality, precision, and continuous development of methodolgy.

At the same time, the role carries a clear commercial responsibility to strengthen Avinor’s attractiveness as a partner – both towards airlines and in collaboration with stakeholders within tourism and business development. This is particularly prominent in the competition for international routes, long-haul connections, and cargo capacity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement Avinor’s overall traffic strategy, in close dialogue with airlines and aligned with the Group’s strategic priorities
• Further develop the Group’s traffic forecasting and analytical capabilities, including the use of advanced models, predictive tools, and new technologies
• Lead and develop the traffic development function, providing clear direction, high professional standards, and increased execution capability
• Strengthen relationships with existing and new airlines, and contribute to attracting new routes, operators, and markets to Norway
• Be responsible for strategies and commercial initiatives related to traffic development, including incentives and charge structures
• Contribute actively to Group strategic processes and ensure strong collaboration across airports, divisions, and support functions
• Represent Avinor in national and international industry forums and act as a visible representative in dialogue with authorities, business communities, and other societal stakeholders

A Role in Transition – and of significance

Norwegian aviation has undergone significant structural changes in recent years, and competition for traffic, routes, and international operators has intensified. Avinor is now strengthening its strategic work within traffic development to ensure increased competitiveness and to further develop Norway as an attractive destination and hub.

As Vice President Traffic Development, you will be a key leader in this development, helping to set direction, culture, and ambition for how Avinor approaches traffic development going forward.
Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an experienced leader with strong commercial understanding and solid strategic capacity. You hold higher education, preferably within economics, marketing, or business, combined with broad and relevant leadership experience. Extensive and relevant experience may compensate for formal education.

You preferably have a background from the aviation industry, for example from an airline, airport, or related commercial environments. Candidates with relevant experience from adjacent industries or advisory environments may also be considered.

You are characterized by the following:

• A confident, inclusive, and clear leadership style
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to think strategically and holistically
• The ability to combine analytical capability with decisiveness and strong execution
• Strong relational skills and the ability to build trust across organizations and national borders
• The ability to thrive in complex environments with multiple stakeholders, political frameworks, and long-term considerations
• Motivation to develop people, professional environments, and business over time
• International experience is an advantage. You must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in one of the Scandinavian languages. Excellent English skills are required.

Practical information

• The position is based in Oslo/OSL. National and international travel should be expected.
• The role requires security clearance and a background check will be conducted.
• Avinor offers a central leadership role with significant societal impact, broad stakeholder exposure, and substantial influence.

If you are motivated by combining commercial development, strategic leadership, and societal responsibility – and wish to influence the future development of Norwegian aviation – we encourage you to apply for the position of  Vice President Traffic Development at Avinor.
