SAS places record order for 45 Embraer aircraft to power future growth and regional connectivity
Copenhagen, July 1, 2025 – Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has entered into an agreement to acquire 45 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, with purchase rights for 10 more — the largest SAS jet order direct from a manufacturer since 1996. The agreement supports SAS’ long-term fleet renewal strategy focused on efficiency, reduced emissions, and future growth from its Copenhagen hub and broader network.
Deliveries begin in late 2027 and will continue over approximately four years. The order (excluding options) is valued at around US$4 billion.
SAS CEO Anko van der Werff calls the E195-E2 “a world-class aircraft” key to enabling growth and improved connectivity. The aircraft will help optimize operations, reduce trip costs, and enhance flexibility.
The E2 has been tested with 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and is on track for full certification. Powered by Pratt & Whitney’s PW1900G engines, the E195-E2 offers significant reductions in fuel burn, emissions, and noise.
Embraer CEO Arjan Meijer highlights its 29% better fuel efficiency and 62% lower noise footprint compared to the previous generation.
This order supports SAS’ transformation toward a modernized, more sustainable fleet and improved passenger experience. The deal was facilitated by Skyworks Holding. SAS was recently ranked the world’s most punctual airline*.
