FAA to JAR Conversion

Tråden startades av FAA Pilot

I would really like to hear from anyone who has any first hand experience or expertise as far the actual conversion goes. In particular the cheapest and quickest options available for theory/ground training and MCC courses in Sweden. One particular hurdle in my case is the need for an English speaking course for all of the training.

Also, I have considered doing my training in the UK or anywhere else that I could find that might be cheaper (Spain, Eastern Europe, Etc.). I would very much appreciate any info I could get as to how this would affect my job chances with Scandinavian based companies.

Thanks in advance!

I have first hand experience from FAA-JAA conversions. You will need to complete an ATPL-theory course (It is not enough to just take the exams, you need to complete a full course with an approved provider). This course can be taken either in classes with a teacher, as distance learning or a combination “semi-distance”. I know for a fact that BFSAA gives the course in english and in any case all assignments and tests are in english.

Be aware that if you intend to do the ATPL-theory and the practical flying in two different JAA-countries you need a written approval from the country where you take the theory that allows you to have the license issued in another country. To be on the safe side check with the country you intend to fly in also that they approve to insert the ATPL-theory credit in your license prior to taking the skill test.

Swedish and UK CAA will issue such approvals within a week of your request and it’s hazzle free, I don’t know how other countries are.

MCC is not inserted in your license (it’s just a diploma), and you can complete that before even having a JAA license (as long as you have FAA ME-IR, unless the specific provider requires a JAA license). On the diploma the license number is printed, so you might have to explain to a potential employer why it’s a FAA license number rather than JAA on your MCC diploma.

If you have any other questions about my conversion, or the practical flying part, give me your e-mail.

good luck!

I don’t think you will find anyone on this forum with the first hand experience you are looking for. Try http://www.pprune.org or contact this school http://www.flygteoriskolan.se
