Boeings fiasko

Tråden startades av Alan

Cancellation and subsequent research Sonic Cruiser.

In the end, most airlines favored lower operating costs over a marginal increase in speed, and the project did not attract the interest for which Boeing had been hoping.
The Sonic Cruiser project was finally abandoned by December 2002 in favor of the slower but more fuel-efficient 7E7 (later renamed Boeing 787 Dreamliner).

Dreamliner became the century’s greatest problems concerning new aircraft. Grounded for three months soon after introduction. Many problems have cost Boeing and airlines big amounts.

2015-08-09 – We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain The Boeing Company Model 737-600 and -700 series airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of cracking in the body station (STA) 727 bulkhead lower frame. This AD requires a detailed and open hole high frequency eddy current (HFEC) inspection of the left- and right-side lower frame webs and inner chords for cracking, and corrective actions and preventative modifications if necessary. This AD also provides for optional terminating action of the repetitive inspections, under certain conditions. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct cracking in a bulkhead lower frame web and inner chord, which could result in a severed frame and induced skin cracks, and could lead to rapid decompression of the fuselage.

2015-06-07 – We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain The Boeing Company Model 737-100, 737-200, 737-200C, 737-300, 737-400, and 737-500 series airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of cracking in the lower corners of the forward entry doorway and the upper corners of the airstairs cutout. This AD requires inspections for cracking of the forward entry doorway and airstairs cutout, and corrective actions if necessary. This AD also provides terminating action for the repetitive inspections. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct cracks in the lower corners of the forward entry door cutout and the upper corners of the airstairs cutout, which could progress and result in an inability to maintain cabin pressurization.

2015-02-26 – We are superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2013-24-13 for certain The Boeing Company Model 737-100, -200, -200C, -300, -400, -500, -600, -700, -700C, -800, and -900 series airplanes. AD 2013-24-13 required replacing the pivot link assembly for certain airplanes, replacing the seat track link assemblies or modifying the existing seat track link assembly for certain airplanes, or modifying the existing seat track link assembly fastener for certain other airplanes. AD 2013-24-13 also required inspecting, changing, or repairing the seat track link assembly for certain other airplanes. Since we issued AD 2013-24-13, a certain paragraph reference in that AD was found to be mis-identified; this AD corrects this paragraph reference. We are issuing this AD to prevent seat detachment in an emergency landing, which could cause injury to occupants of the passenger compartment and affect emergency egress.

Boeing’s flagship airliner could be on the way to more trouble soon.

To keep a Boeing Dreamliner flying, reboot once every 248 days
May 1, 2015

The 787 Dreamliner has been plagued with battery woes since its early days, to the point where the Federal Aviation Administration kept it from flying the skies in the past. And while those technical difficulties are apparently taken care of, Boeing’s flagship airliner could be on the way to more trouble soon. According to the FAA, there’s a software bug in the 787

What is your point? You are really digging deep trying to find faults with the 787, the most advanced transport airplane on this planet. Why do you hate the 787? Do you hate Boeing? Do you hate the USA? Are you paid by Airbus?

FAA orders new 787 electrical fix to prevent power failure.

All six power generating systems are managed by a corresponding generator control unit (GCU). Boeing’s laboratory testing discovered that an internal software counter in the GCU overflows after running continuously for 248 days, according to the FAA. The overflow causes all four GCUs on the engine-mounted generators to enter failsafe mode at the same time.

The software overflow problem is the latest in a string of reliability bugs to surface in the 787’s electrical system. The FAA grounded the 787 fleet for four months in 2013 after two batteries overheated, leading to a redesign of the battery system installation. Last June, the FAA approved an exemption to allow the 787-9 to enter service on schedule despite a substandard reliability record on the GCU for the RAT. The agency approved the exemption because it was deemed extremely improbable that all six power generators on board could fail at the same time.

For deliveries and revenue, Boeing is clearly the leader of the two with 14% more deliveries than in 1Q2014 at 184 aircraft and posted revenues of $15.4bn, up 21% from last year. Airbus trails that by a full 50 aircraft at 134 and had revenues of 8.6bn Euros, down 4% from last year. This is 44% lower revenues than Boeing, a large difference, even when considering that Airbus closes their factories over New Year.

Consultant Richard Aboulafia was quoted about the UA transaction as this proved the 787 isn’t a game-changing airplane after all.

Andra med intressen i Boeing säger något helt annat.
