Swedish Pilot Job Market
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help shed some light on the real state of the Swedish/European pilot market for the coming few years. I think it´s always helpful to hear from those that are in the middle of it.
I have an FAA ATPL with around 2700 TT but have now moved to Sweden. Converting the JAA license is going to be a very long and expensive process and would like to get a better feel for the hiring/job conditions that I will find myself in if I decide to go through with the process.
Any help that can be provided will be very much appreciated so thanks in advance!

Adam, Johansson: Tycker du att det är ett bra tipps med tanke på att han inte har JAA cert, och knappast heller en JAA B737 type rating, eller 500 timmar på typen för den delen heller.
GOOD LUCK. I THINK YOU SHOULD GO FOR IT.
I HAVE BEEN A FREQUENT FLYER IN OVER 35 YEARS AND HAVE VISITED 27 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, SO I KNOW A LOT ABOUT THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY.
Unfortunately there is no way to “convert” the license so you have to sit all the 14 ATPL exams to get your JAA CPL or ATPL reissued.

One thing to bare in mind here is that you have to chose your “country of issue” for your JAA license. This country will be responsible for your license, and you will have to coordinate your validation with them.
If you choose the UK CAA, you have to go there every time you need to renew your license or add a type rating etc. The Swedish CAA accepts these documents by post, however they might not be the cheapest.
Many operators require you to fund your own type rating, and if do the MCC together with the type rating it will be cheaper for you, since if you combine the both you need less simulator time.
the jobs are few and far between.salarys to low to be worth it.use your intelligence and skill to get any other education and work in an industry where you effort is appreciated and not spit upon……………………..
Hej! Thanks for the prompt and helpfull repies. I don´t want to ask too much but if anyone has any first hand experience or expertise as far the actual conversion goes, I would appreciate hearing that as well. In particular the cheapest and quickest options available for theory/ground training and MCC courses in Sweden. One particular hurdle in my case is the need for an English speaking course.
Also, I have considered doing my training in the UK. I would very much appreciate any info I could get as to how this would affect my job chances with Scandinavian based companies.
you do need a JAA license.
As you know, the pilot market follows the economic market. Sweden survived pretty ok in this financial crisis, so some companies are recruiting, and hopefully it continues that way.
Currently recruiting is City Airline, Norwegian Air shuttle, and a few charter airlines are looking for summer pilots.
You will find it difficult obtaining a job in Sweden on an FAA license, unless you have a TR (G550, GLEX etc) that can be validated on a P4, VP, M etc reg for one of the many corporate companies in EU.
