Etihad Airways Launches Service from Göteborg Landvetter Airport
Etihad Airways will begin operating flights between Gothenburg and Abu Dhabi four times a week starting in December. The new route has been eagerly anticipated by both the business community in the region and leisure travelers. It will significantly enhance connectivity from West Sweden to Asia and Australia.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming Etihad Airways in December. This is the first direct connection between Gothenburg and the United Arab Emirates. Companies in West Sweden conduct business across Asia, and many of our travelers have relatives, friends, and family in the region. The new service will strengthen connectivity for the region, particularly to the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia. This investment demonstrates strong confidence in the Swedish aviation market and in West Sweden as a region,” says Mats Johannesson, CEO of Swedavia Airports.
Etihad Airways is the largest airline operating at Zayed International Airport and offers an extensive global network, including more than 50 destinations across Asia alone.
“The A321LR enables us to offer a route that includes our full product offering, with three cabin classes, at a scale that suits Gothenburg. This service opens up our network to India, Southeast Asia and destinations across the globe,” says Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways.
Starting 17 December 2026, Etihad Airways will operate flights between Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT) and Abu Dhabi (AUH) four times per week using an Airbus A321LR with a capacity of 160 seats across three cabin classes (First, Business and Economy). Bookings for the new route are available from today.

Spännande att se hur mycket frakt det blir på dessa kärror. TUI säljer connections till Thailand redan med EY från GOT. Blir det några widebody för TUI i vinter från GOT eller fyller man EY?

då kanske är det dags att lägga om lite inrikesslots som passar in etihad lyften. Så till slut så kanske kan stockholmarna behöva pendla till landvetter för att flyga till abu dhabi 🙂
Det här tror jag är ett rätt smart drag. Arlanda är redan Qatarland och även Emirates flyger dit. Göteborg har ingen av ME3, så mindre konkurrens och högre priser.
Ett fantastiskt flygbolag som även byggt en flygplats för sin egna trafik i Abu Dhabi

Vi får väl lita på att Etihad har tagit ett beslut som är bäst för dem och inte så mycket för att Stockholm är Sveriges huvudstad eller att ARN hade gjort det lättare för norrlänningar.
Går det även knöla in frakt i en A321 Neo LR, förutom alla resväskor? Eller är det enbart folket man satsar på här?
Det är en säsongslinje. Men det är så upplägget brukar vara. Oftast brukar de förlängas, dock rätt sent så de tappar bokningar.
Såvida inte GOT blir ett fiasko. QR kom ju aldrig tillbaka med egen maskin.
Blir bra med en linje till Abu Dhabi med ett mycket bra flygbolag. Kanske lite överdrivet med First class från Sverige men det går ju alltid att sälja till alla poängjägare. Bra förbindelser vidare till Asien och Sri Lanka och Maldiverna. Bara att hoppas att läget i Mellan Östern lugnar ner sig så man kan känna sig säker vid transfer i Abu Dhabi. Tror det är bra passagerarunderlag från Västsverige, dels i form av välbeställda semesterfirare och stora industrier.
Innan pandemin rapporterade Swedavia att över 230 000 flyger till Asien från Landvetter varje år. Denna siffra är möjligen något lägre idag men visar ändå på regionens potential för en långdistansrutt med möjlighet för vidare resa österut. Speciellt med en mindre Airbus. Tror dessa flighter kommer fyllas rätt enkelt
Svar till alla, är väl ändå att Stockholm är Sveriges huvudstad även de i Gbg. Att Ethiad hade linjen till Stockholm skulle förenkla resandet till Asien för ex. Norrlänningarna och de som bor i Örebro/Sörmland. Alla har inte nära CPH och genom att Sydsvenskar flyger därifrån gynnar enbart dansk ekonomi och inte svensk. Flyglinjer är en ekonomi fråga och också en skattefråga. Ett stark ARN drar in pengar.
Tror inte det kommer att fungera. Finns varken köpkraft hos befolkningen i västra götaland samt underlag till att åka dit.
Underlaget för landvetter är typ albanien eller bosnien dit många reser då stor del av utlandsfödda bor i västra götaland.
Är nog ganska många längs E6:an som tidigare åkt ner till Köpenhamn för sina resor till Asien som kommer åka till Göteborg istället.
Ingen broavgift, billigare parkering och smidigheten med en mindre flygplats.
Lär väl knappt finnas någon plats för baggage då utrymmet lär fyllas med cargo 🙂

Sorry Göteborg men detta är bara en säsongslinje mellan 17:e december och 21 mars.

Abu Dhabi, UAE/ Gothenburg, Sweden – Etihad Airways today announced a new seasonal service between Abu Dhabi and Gothenburg, starting 17 December 2026 and operating four times a week until 21 March 2027.
The new service will create Gothenburg’s first direct air link to Asia, connecting Sweden’s west coast directly with Abu Dhabi and providing some of the fastest one-stop journeys to sought-after destinations across India and Asia through Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub.
Abu Dhabi holds an extraordinary variety of experiences within easy reach. Visitors can kayak through the mangroves at Jubail, explore the museums of the Saadiyat Cultural District and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, relax on the beaches of the Arabian Gulf, or experience the attractions of Yas Island. Etihad’s complimentary Abu Dhabi Stopover programme allows eligible guests connecting through the city to add a hotel stay of up to two nights, turning their connection into a chance to experience the capital. Dubai is also just 45 minutes from Abu Dhabi, putting both cities within easy reach.
For travellers from Gothenburg, the evening arrival in Abu Dhabi also opens Etihad’s onward network across Asia. Onward services include Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Singapore, Hanoi, Bali, Shanghai, Taipei, Bengaluru, and Colombo.
Gothenburg is the fifteenth new destination Etihad has launched in 2026, and the route will be operated by the Airbus A321LR. It’s the newest aircraft in Etihad’s fleet, configured with two First Suites, 14 Business seats and 144 in Economy. First and Business feature fully flat beds with direct aisle access, and Economy features ergonomic seating with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen displays with hundreds of hours of films, television and music on demand. High-speed Wi-Fi is available across all cabins.
Travelling the other way, Gothenburg is Scandinavia at its most characterful. Sweden’s second largest city sits where the Göta River meets the sea, with an archipelago a short ferry ride from the centre, seafood markets, the Christmas lights at Liseberg and the wooden streets of the Haga district.

Västkusten är ju Sveriges Mellanöstern, så inte konstig när en stor del av deras kundunderlag bor där.
Tror inte ens att Arlanda är mittpunkt för Stockholm…
Det är jättebra för Sverige och ger de största möjlighet för en bra start på linjen. De kommer förr eller senare till Arlanda, förmodligen när de fått sina A330neos om något år.
Göteborgarna och västra delen av landet skriker efter en utomeuropeisk storhubb för interkontinental trafik, och det här gör att många i södra Sverige som skulle ha åkt till Köpenhamn istället åker till Landvetter. De kommer i princip att ha monopol på interkontinentala trafiken (dock lite konkurrens från Turkish som är på gränsen) innan Qatar har hunnit tillbaka till kakan när de får sina A321LR.
Detta talar väl också för att ett avtal kanske är på gång igen mellan Iran och USA.
Den här nyheten kommer väl ge såpass mycket PR att linjen kommer bli dagligen ganska snabbt då de har helt rätt flygplanstyp också!
